Victorian 66th Berkshire Regiment Historical Photograph.

A scarce head and shoulder study attributed to Lieutenant William John De La Peer Beresford-Pierce who was present at the disastrous Battle of Maiwand, where the 66th lost the Regimental Colours and 62% of it’s men.

The head and shoulder study shows an Officer of the regiment wearing a Patrol pattern frock tunic and a forage cap with bullion 66 badge. The carte de visite photograph was taken at the W Perry studio at the School of Musketry Hythe. The reverse with ink inscription. Size 2 1/2 x 4 inches.

An interesting article was published online by the The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum published an article when Lieutenant William John De La Peer Beresford-Pierce sword was presented to the museum, see link below. At the Battle of Maiwand he commanded H Coy.
