This alloy and steel example is stamped “J WHITTLE 26209 CE 17. R.W.F.” The reverse scratched with a girls name VIOLET.

Private James Whittle born at Preston was living at Penrhynside and enlisted at Llandudno. He landed in France on the 5th December 1915 and died on wounds on the 8th August 1917
