WW1 Unusual Private Purchase Tin Trench Periscope.

This square tin trench periscope retains traces of the original light khaki paint finish. The telescopic action extends the periscope to a length of 31 1/2 inches, with a mirror plate bottom and top these with a folding flap. Closed the length is 14 inches. The trench periscope retains its original wire mount which would be used to fix to the wall of the trench. The top mount imposed with PROV PAT No 4177

I have not come across this pattern before a similar round construction example is held by the Australian War Memorial.
