WW1 Royal Flying Corps RNAS RAF Face Mask.

SOLD

Code: 19795

WW1 Royal Flying Corps RNAS RAF Face Mask.

A superb and extremely rare example of the pattern worn by pilots and observers during the Great War. Soft light tan leather typical of the colouring of leather flying clothing. Tailored with eye, nose and mouth holes. The interior with a soft Chamois leather which is repeated to parts of the elasticated head harness. Overall VGC good colour and supple condition. Elastic slightly worn. PLEASE NOTE Flying helmet for display only not included with the mask.

This is probably one of the rarest pieces of WW1 British flying equipment and is the only third example of the type I have handled in 40 years. I have added to the description an illustration from the book Flying Clothing by Greer and Harold which clearly shows this pattern of mask being worn by a Great War pilot
