WW2 RAF / FAA 1st Pattern C Type Flying Helmet Size 4 Named.

A good and scarce early issue example, with original Air Ministry Label indicating Size 4 the largest size. The leather remains supple, with one scuff mark see photograph. Retaining original earphones. The rubber cups remain good and supple, but one has slightly curled around the earphone, hence I have left the pair of eaphones in place. The lining also with the ink name of L.F. Nuttall. The helmet remains in near Very Good Condition buckle to rear goggle strap absent.

I have attributed the helmet to Sub Lieutenant L.F. Nuttall of the Fleet Air Arm who is noted on the 4th September 1943 was the pilot of the Seafire “Twickenham II” which he overturned on soft ground whilst serving with 761 Naval Squadron.
