Lieutenant Howard Grestock was born in London on 29th January 1879 moving to Canada he volunteered for service during the Boer War seeing service with "Strathcona's Horse”. He was awarded a rare raised date Queen’s South Africa Medal.
At the outbreak of the Great War rejoined the 73rd Battalion Lord Strathcona’s Horse. He landed in France May 1915. He was wounded in November 1916, recovering he rejoined his unit. On the night of the 4th February 1918 his battalion made a raid on the enemy’s trenches, his party, sustained a number of casualties as they venture to close to the enemy. Grestock was one of the wounded taken prisoner and died the next day of his wounds in a Bavarian Hospital at Henin-Lietard on 5th February 1917
