WW2 RAF Observer DFM Winners Officer’s Tunic.
A good original mid war example. The tunic is of the regulation pattern with a good padded Observer brevet, with the medal ribbons of the Distinguished Flying Medal and the 1939/45 (1939/43) Star. Tailored with brass buttons and Pilot Officer rank lace. The interior with a full cotton lining. Unfortunately I have not found a name in the tunic.
It is unusual to find a tunic of this period retaining Pilot Officer rank, I would assume this Observer was awarded the DFM at the end of a Tour of Operations and commissioned, only to be later Killed before promotion to Flying Officer.
