WW2 RAF Battle of Arnhem German POW Dog Tag.

This alloy example is stamped:

“1083 KR. GEF LAGER D LW NR7”.  GC some age wear.

I have attributed this tag to 187555 Pilot Officer Peter Ridgeway Russell who in 1945 was released from Stalg 7 with the POW number 1083.
It is interesting to note that a then Flight Sergeant P R Russell was a pilot of 233 Squadron operating the Dakota aircraft on the 6th June 1944 he flew as part of Operation Robroy One. The Squadron would go onto operate during the Battle of Arnhem and the Squadron record book records on the 21st September loosing 3 aircraft one flown by then Warrant Officer P R Russell. This was a re-supply drop his aircraf making a controlled crash at Bennekom approximately 17KM from Arnhem. His commission was confirmed whilst a POW on the 26th December 1944.
