WW1 / WW2 British RAF & SOE Pigeon Message Capsule.
A very rare example of an original Alloy light weight capsule, retaining leg grips. The capsule opens to reveal a tube for the message which would have been written on light weight tissue paper.
This pattern was introduced during WW1 and continued to be used during WW2 by SOE agents, downed RAF aircrew and also news correspondence who accompanied troops on D-Day. The last photograph shows examples held by the Imperial War Museum.
