Issued to commemorate the ultimate sacrifice of “Fred Depledge”  GC.

Two men with this unusual name died during the Great War and both from the same town of Swinton Yorkshire
17206 Private Fred Depledge who was Killed in Action on the 1st July 1916 (1st Day Battle of the Somme) with the 8th Bn York & Lancs Regiment.
1684 Private Fed Depledge who was Killed in Action on the 12 August 1917 with the 1st Bn Royal Munster Fusiliers.

It is also interesting to note that although a very unusual name both men were born in the same town of Swinton South Yorkshire and their are next to each other on the town War Memorial.
