WW1 Personal Scrapbook of REV C G Swann MC Att. Rifle Brigade
This is one of the best and most interesting personal Great War scrapbooks I have handled and was compiled by The Reverend Charles Graham Swann MC Chaplain to the Forces from Bradford. The book follows his service career, including official correspondence for him volunteering, posting to France, Congratulations on the award of the Military Cross, The scrapbook also includes original British Army Trench maps for 1917 showing German positions, many many newspaper cutting, including some from his home town of Bradford, there is even correspondence discussing the gift of Peace Medals to the children of Bradford in 1919. The book covers about 190 pages a unique opportunity to look into his life during the Great War.
The Reverend Charles Graham Swann MC volunteered as a Army Chaplain in April 1916 and proceeded to France in February 1917., he served with the Rifle Brigade and KRRC. He was awarded the Military Cross of gallantry in September 1917 and the following month was gassed. and returned to Blighty. During his period at home he was presented with the Military Cross from the hand of King George V. It appears he returned to France in 1918 and after the war returned to his Parish in Bradford.
