14275 Private Jack Anker a native of Chesterfield Derbyshire was Killed in Action with the 1st Bn on the 9th May 1915. On this day the 1st Bn was ordered to go over the top at Aubers, their trench only 80 yards from the German line. Heavy machine-gun fire cut them down even on their own ladders and parapet steps, but the men continued to press forward as ordered
