WW1 1/5 Lowland Brigade Officer’s Binoculars.
These are the strangest pair of Great War binoculars I have seen. They are a small pair of opera glasses by Lematre of Paris. Engraved “CAPT WHITWORTH 1/5 LOW. BRIG. AMM COL.”.
They are contained in the original black leather case. Optics Clear
At the start of the Great War the British army were desperate for optics and a call when out to the public to denote, what they had.
Possibly carried by Captain R.B. Whitworth MC who was a Territorial Officer of the 4th West Riding Battery of the RFA. The West Riding RHA is noted as serving with the V Lowland Brigade.
