WW1 1/4th Bn Leicester Regiment Officer Casualty Medal.

This British War Medal was awarded to “LIEUT F.N. TARR”. a pre War England International Rugby Player.

Lieutenant Francis Nathaniel Tarr was born in 1887 and played Rugby for the Leicester Tigers 1909-1913, during this time he won four caps for England, scoring two tries. He also earned three Blues while reading law at Oxford. During his time at Oxford he served in the OTC and later was commissioned into the 1/4th Bn Leicestershire Regiment in 1911. He landed in France on the 3rd March 1915 and on the 18th July1915 was Killed in Action when hit by a shell splinter.
