British Crimean War Period OR’s Issue Wooden Water Bottle.
A very rare example of the pattern of wooden canteen worn by the British Army from the time of the Napoleonic wars through to about 1860 when the pattern was changed. This example with clear Board of Ordnance issue stamps and the date 185?. Complete with original stopper (age swollen and now firm) and sling bars. The original blue paint has been polished from the front and back and these parts with a good old patina. The edge retains a lot of the original blue paint patina. Despite some age wear I would say this item is near VGC for the type.
