WW2 Royal Air Force Official Aircrew Pathfinder Wing Badge.

A rare original Second World War period 'RAF Pathfinder badge'; gilded brass eagle wing nicely toned and retaining the correct original tube joint pin fitting and flat-rolled catch. Very good condition.
Wingspan 54mm.

The RAF pathfinder badge was worn above left breast pocket. It was strictly forbidden for aircrew to actually wear this badge when on operations in case they fell into German hands, taken prisoner and identified.

A rare pair of attributed early Elizabeth II shoulder boards with gold bullion embroidery. Accompanied by an original calling card.

Air Vice Marshal R.B. Thomson CB., DSO., DFC. A pre war pilot originally served with 612 (County of Aberdeen) Squadron. During WW2 he was awarded the DSO (172 SQD 1943) and DFC (1943 206 SQD). He was a Flight Commander with 612 Squadron 1939 to 1943, Flight commander for a short time with 172 Squadron an in May 1943 OC 206 Squadron operating the Flying Fortress. Post War postings included AOC RAF Gibraltar, AOC 18 (Reconnaissance) Group and his finally posting was 1963 AOA HQ Flying Training Command. Created a CB 1959. Retired in 1966 and died in 1984.
